Euro Football League
The Euro Football League 2006/7

About the EFL

The Euro Football League is compiled by using all League and European results of the teams from the top 40 UEFA ranked leagues from all over the continent. A teams positon is calculated by awarding points for each League or European game that they play, depending on the quality of their opposition. The highest number of points is awarded for a win over Champions League opposition*, which earns 6 points - this includes games against Champions League teams that are played in domestic leagues. A draw against a Champions League side would gain 3 points. Similarly, a win against UEFA Cup opposition* earns 4 points with 2 points for a draw.

Games against teams that have not qualified for European group stage football initially earn 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw, unless the game takes part in a league that has no qualifier for the group stage of either European competition, in which case it is 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. Competitions outside the top five UEFA ranked leagues (Spain, England, Italy, France and Germany,) however, receive slightly fewer points to reflect the weaker sides that they are playing. The leagues with UEFA ranking 6-10 (Portugal, Romania, Holland, Russia and Scotland) receive 90% of the 3 points or 1 point awarded, leagues ranked 11-15 (Ukraine, Belgium, Czech Republic, Turkey and Greece) receive 85%, leagues ranked 16-20 (Bulgaria, Switzerland, Norway and Serbia) receive 80%, leagues ranked 21-25 (Denmark, Austria, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia) receive 75%, leagues ranked 26-30 (Croatia, Cyprus, Sweden, Slovenia and Bosnia) receive 70%, and teams from any remaining countries receive 65%. This weighting applies only to games against teams that have not qualified for European group stages - any teams that gain a win or draw against Champions League or UEFA Cup opposition receive the same number of points. Teams also receive 2 bonus points every time they progress through a Champions League round or 1 bonus point for reaching each UEFA Cup round. Teams are awarded 3 points for every Champions League Qualifying Round, UEFA Cup Qualifying Round and UEFA Cup 1st Round that they progress through and 2 points for every Intertoto Cup Round. A team will be awarded 0 points for a defeat in any domestic league game, or any Champions League or UEFA Cup game from the group stage onwards. They will also be awarded 0 points for the round in which they may be eliminated from the Intertoto Cup or the any round before the group stages of the Champions League or UEFA Cup. A teams final score is found by calculating an average score per game over the course of the season.

The final table, therefore, shows how all of the top European teams are performing over the relevant season, bearing in mind the strength of the teams that they have played so far.

*Champions League ranked teams are those that reach the Champions League group stage. These teams retain their Champions League ranking throughout the season, even after they have been eliminated from the competition. Similarly, UEFA Cup ranked teams are those that reach the UEFA Cup group stage and they also retain their ranking throughout the season.
